⚖️ Texas Law — Charge Details
2–10 years in prison + up to $10,000 fine
Continuous Violence Against the Family under Texas Penal Code § 25.11 is charged when a person commits two or more family violence assaults against one or more family or household members within a 12-month period — regardless of whether the individual assaults were charged or resulted in conviction. This charge was created to address serial domestic abusers who commit repeated low-level assaults that each individually might only be misdemeanors. The combination into a single continuous offense elevates the charge to a Third-Degree Felony (2–10 years). A prior conviction for the same offense elevates it to a Second-Degree Felony.
